Sea Gem Villas / Anguilla, Caribbean

In Anguilla, British West Indies, Mantovani Architects was asked to work on two adjoining plots totalling one acre, a short walk from the island’s most beautiful beach of Shoal Bay East.

Overlooking the sea, the villas follow the line of the land rolling gently down to a rocky bay. A covered walkway running along the spine of both buildings simultaneously divides and unifies their volumes. Designed to link the main entrances to the seafront terrace, the walkway is a “panoramic telescope” towards the ocean.
The upper residence is organized around a square swimming pool whilst the lower one is separated from the sea by the turquoise water of the infinity pool.
The use of natural ventilation, based on the study of the local breezes dictated the composition of the aperture on the fronts.
Greenheart hardwood, Cor-Ten steel , local stone and the monolithic presence of the walkway portals cladded in Italian Travertine, all work together to build the character of our project.

Private tropical gardens, outdoor bars, spas and informal lounge and dining areas complete the seamless flow between the indoor and the predominant presence of the ocean.
